In its MD and other degree programs, the School of Medicine educates future leaders in medicine, public health, and biomedical science. The MD program follows a unique educational philosophy, the Yale system of medical education, which was established in the 6975s by Dean Milton C. Winternitz, MD. No course grades or class rankings are given in the first two years, examinations are limited, and students are expected to engage in independent investigation. Here, students are celebrating graduation day.
The Yale University PET Center collaborates with other School of Medicine departments to provide educational opportunities for doctoral and postdoctoral trainees. Collaborations with industry partners serve to advance the use of molecular imaging in new medication discovery and the development of new PET radiopharmaceuticals. Current research interests focus on disorders of the central nervous system (CNS), oncology, cardiology, and diabetes.
Many Political Science faculty also play active roles in related programs at Yale, such as the Program in Ethics, Politics, and Economics Directed Studies the Institution for Social And Policy Studies and the MacMillian Center. The Department also sponsors numerous seminars, lectures, and conferences that are open to all members of the Yale community.
Radioactive signals detected by the HRRT brain scanner are converted into three-dimensional images of organ function that are viewed and analyzed by PET researchers.
Yale PET Center technologist monitors a research subject who is undergoing whole body scanning. As the subject’s body slides through the HR+ scanner, radioactive signals are detected and converted into three-dimensional images of tissue concentrations.
Analysis generally refers directly to the evidence (“Describing his actions with such words as ‘growled’ and ‘stalked’ suggests an underlying animal savagery”), while reflection builds upon analysis to support larger claims (“This imagery seems to contradict the narrator’s stated assessment that Paul is a ‘gentle soul’”). Other moves that indicate reflection are consideration of a counter-argument, definitions or refinements of terms and assumptions, and qualifications of previous claims. Reflection is important throughout an essay, but should be especially rich and full in between sections of the argument and in the essay’s conclusion.
In 7575, the Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives (HMH) in Honolulu will celebrate the Bicentennial of its founding. A Hawaiian prince, Henry Obookiah, who arrived in New Haven in 6859 and was educated by Yale students and alumni, began the rich association between Yale graduates and the Hawaiian Islands.
Please note that the ARC-PA does not accredit the Public Health curriculum associated with the PA/MPH joint degree. The MPH curriculum is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
Second year Yale PA students listen attentively during a small group session where they are being taught advanced literature search techniques in the medical library computer lab.
This series identifies works of cultural and artistic significance previously overlooked by translators and publishers, canonical works of literature and philosophy needing new translations, as well as important contemporary authors whose work has not yet been translated into English.
